The day program

Same Day Agra Tour Itinerary: Delhi to Agra

5:00 AM – Departure from Delhi

  • Start your journey early to avoid the morning traffic and to make the most of your time in Agra.
  • The drive from Delhi to Agra takes approximately 3-4 hours, so plan accordingly to reach Agra by around 8:00 AM.

8:00 AM – Arrive in Agra

  • After reaching Agra, head straight to the Taj Mahal to start your sightseeing.

8:30 AM – Visit the Taj Mahal

  • The Taj Mahal opens at sunrise (around 6:00 AM), so even if you arrive a little later, you’ll still catch its beauty in the soft morning light.
  • Spend 1.5 to 2 hours exploring the Taj Mahal, including its stunning gardens, marble architecture, and interior. Don’t forget to take some photos and visit the tombs of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal inside.

10:30 AM – Visit Agra Fort

  • After the Taj Mahal, head to Agra Fort, located about 15-20 minutes from the Taj Mahal.
  • Explore the Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with its impressive Mughal architecture, the Diwan-i-Am, Diwan-i-Khas, and the Moti Masjid. Allow 1-1.5 hours to explore the fort.

12:00 PM – Visit Mehtab Bagh (Optional)

  • If time allows, head to Mehtab Bagh, which is located across the Yamuna River from the Taj Mahal. It offers a unique and scenic view of the Taj from the opposite side.
  • Spend 30-45 minutes here for a relaxed photo opportunity and a different perspective of the monument.

1:00 PM – Lunch Break

  • After exploring Agra’s top sights, head to a local restaurant for lunch.
  • Some good options for lunch include:
  • Pinch of Spice: A popular restaurant known for its delicious Indian cuisine.
  • The Oberoi Amarvilas: If you prefer a luxury experience with a view of the Taj Mahal.
  • Esphahan Restaurant (at the ITC Mughal): Offers a great spread of Mughlai cuisine.

2:00 PM – Visit Itmad-ud-Daula (Optional)

  • If you have time and interest, visit Itmad-ud-Daula, also known as the “Baby Taj,” which is a smaller but equally beautiful mausoleum with intricate marble work. It’s often less crowded, making it a peaceful spot for some quiet exploration.

3:00 PM – Shopping and Souvenirs (Optional)

  • If you’re interested in shopping, visit the local markets in Agra. The Sadar Bazaar area is famous for its marble handicrafts, jewelry, and souvenirs.

4:00 PM – Departure for Delhi

  • Begin your journey back to Delhi to avoid evening traffic. The drive will take around 3-4 hours, depending on the route and traffic conditions.

7:30 PM – Arrive in Delhi

  • You should be back in Delhi by evening, with a day full of memorable experiences.

Tips for the Tour:

  • Transportation: It’s advisable to book a private car or a guided tour for the day to make the trip more comfortable and to save time. There are also train options like the Gatimaan Express and Shatabdi Express that can help you avoid traffic.
  • Tickets: Purchase Taj Mahal tickets in advance to save time at the entrance.
  • Clothing: Wear comfortable clothing and shoes for walking, especially since the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort involve a lot of walking.
  • Time Management: Keep track of time so you don’t rush through the attractions. If you’re visiting in a group, follow a planned schedule to ensure you don’t miss out on the key sites.
